I have been working as a counsellor in London for over 15 years. I have an MA in
counselling and I am a senior accredited counsellor with the British Association
for Counselling and Psychotherapy.
I began studying to be a counsellor in my mid thirties. Before that I had worked
in several careers and had been a lecturer in an Art College, a Classical Music
journalist and also worked in PR and marketing.
I have trained in a number of different approaches to counselling, initially
studying Existential and Psychodynamic therapy and then focussing on CBT
(Cognitive Behavioural Therapy). The CBT approach is the core of how I work
I also have a specialism in treating post traumatic reactions for which I use
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing).
Over the years I have worked in a wide variety of settings including the NHS, the
Priory Hospital, low cost mental health centres in London, and for organisations
providing counselling services to businesses.
My many different experiences of counselling work have given me a deep
understanding of psychological difficulties and I have worked successfully with
people suffering from stress, depression, anxiety, relationship problems, anger
issues and post traumatic reactions.
As well as working as a counsellor I also regularly train counsellors and other
professionals in areas such as stress management, post trauma counselling and
sickness absence management.
